Who Is It For?
One of the natural consequences of ageing is skin sagging in the midface, the creation of loose skin areas and related deep creases, which can be the cause of changes in a person’s main features. The face might look tired and older than it actually is. During the operation excess skin is removed and major wrinkles are smoothed.
Reducing wrinkles and improving loose, sagging skin, the operation comes in a variety of forms. It is performed either as a full facelift, which involves the area below the eyes and neck; or as a mini facelift, involving the mid-face area while omitting the neck. If necessary it can be combined with eyelid surgery. It is important to highlight that special attention is paid to the preservation of natural facial features.
How Is It Done?
During the facelift or necklift operation underlying tissue structure is tightened and face and neck skin is redraped. Excess skin is removed. The incisions are made in hair-bearing areas near temples, and then they extend around earlobes and back to the hairline. The most complete facelift involves making the incision and redraping the skin behind the tragus. In every kind of facelift procedure, the scar is hidden in natural lines and is barely conspicuous. During suturing non-absorbable or absorbable materials can be used. In the case of non-absorbable materials, the sutures must be extracted within two or three weeks after the operation, while absorbable sutures dissolve in the body on their own and their advantage is also the fact that the scar is finer.
There is also a mini facelift option - this method is suitable for a small decrease of jaws. Benefits of a mini facelift: shorter incision and then shorter scar, smaller mobilization of the skin and thus smaller swelling and faster recovery. There is also a shorter surgery time and shorter anaesthetic. It is very often combined with upper and lower eyelid surgery. The elastic garment will have to be worn for three weeks.
